- Summary
- This documentary combines an overview of the career of choreographer Rudy Perez with footage of Perez coaching dancer Victor Quijada in Perez's seminal solo Countdown. In interviews accompanied by extensive archival footage, Perez discusses his childhood and dance background, his involvement with the Judson Church movement and foundation of his first company, his move from New York to Los Angeles, his choreographic ideas, and the experience of losing his eyesight to glaucoma. Current and former dancers and dance critics speak about Perez's working methods and influence, particularly his role in challenging definitions of dance. Archival footage from the following works is included: Countdown, Bang bang, Take your alligator (coat) with you, Centerbreak, Urban suite, Meridien pass, Triangles red, Dance-crazy kid from New Jersey meets Hofmannstal, Feelings for open spaces, none for crowded areas, Spiritual offering.
