- Note
- Thomas Moore wrote the words for "The last rose of summer" and altered the melody of "The groves of Blarney" to create the tune. The song was first published in Dublin in Dec. 1813 in "A selection of Irish melodies." It was later interpolated into Flotow's opera, Martha (1847) as a "Volkslied." Cf. The book of world-famous music / J.J. Fuld.
