Summary
New York premiere of works by young composers, Paul Nauert, Drew Baker, and Derek Charke. Composer Charles Wuorinen moderates a panel discussion with the composers interspersed with performances of the various works. Drew Baker talks about how he conceives a work using instruments such as water percussion, that produce non-Western pitches. Paul Nauert discusses the structure of his piece Collection of caprices and Derek Charke talks about the relationship between the music for his work Gaeta and the poem of the same name by Al Purdy that inspired the composition.
