- Description
- 1 videocassette (VHS) (29 min.) : sd., col. SP; 1/2 in.
- Summary
- Performer Kate Valk discusses her career with Newsday critic Linda Winer. After studying acting at NYU with Stella Adler, and then with the Experimental Theatre Wing, Valk found her "artistic home" at the Wooster Group, which, since the 1970s, has been producing innovative, unusual theater. Valk discusses her experiences working with the dedicated group of theater artists of the Wooster Group; the group's tours in Europe during the 1980s and 90s; their process for creating a new work; the prevalence of avant garde theater groups in New York City in the 1970s; the group's interest in technological uses of sound, film and video; their controversy with playwright Arthur Miller, who threatened to sue over their reworking of his play The crucible as part of their own production; the creative process of the group's director, Elizabeth LeCompte; and how the group has stayed intact, despite the comings and goings of personnel over the years.
