- Summary
- RoseLee Goldberg moderates a panel discussion with artist and filmmaker Isaac Julien and choreographer Russell Maliphant about their original work of visual theater, The Ice project. Julien talks about his film Looking for Langston; how movie images lend themselves to the use of choreography; the use of political statements in his films; his background as a visual artist and the move to making films; his movies Long road to Mazatlán, Baltimore, and Three; and his film True north about the African-american explorer Matthew Henson. Maliphant discusses his film PUSH; shows clips from his films Shift, Critical mass, and Transmission; his career as a dancer; contact improvisation; how and when he met Isaac Julien; his use of lighting. Both Julien and Maliphant discuss their collaboration on The ice project. This is followed by clips from The ice project.
