Description
1 videodisc (NTSC) (59 min.) : sd., col.; 4 3/4 in.
Summary
Wes Chapman, Ballet Master for American Ballet Theatre, moderates a panel discussion about Lar Lubovitch's ballet, Othello. Panelists include Lubovitch and Kevin McKenzie, Artistic Director of the American Ballet Theatre. Kevin McKenzie discusses the evolution of this ballet and the decision to collaborate with the San Francisco Ballet. Lar Lubovitch discusses the process of creating a concise story line for the ballet; his choice of Elliot Goldenthal to compose the musical score; the set designed by George Tsypin; the costumes designed by Ann Hould-Ward; and the first Othello story, The revenge of the Moor, written by Giraldo Cinthio. Kevin McKenzie discusses how medieval court dances demonstrate the rough treatment of women and the dominance of men.
