- Summary
- Kathleen Moore moderates a panel discussion, interspersed with selections from an untitled work in progress, later titled Aria, choreographed by Seán Curran to recorded apologies and arias of Handel. The program opens with a solo (not connected to Aria) performed by Curran, without music. Moderator Kathleen Moore speaks about ABT's tradition of presenting new choreography and gives a brief biography of Curran. Curran speaks about his choreographic methods and ideas and discusses the origins of his current work in progress, and how his background in postmodern dance contrasts with the ballet training of the ABT Studio Company dancers. After the first excerpt from Aria, Curran demonstrates his working process, developing choreography with the dancers. In the final dicussion segment, Charles Nolan speaks about his design ideas, his reactions to the piece and his plans for the costumes; slides of his sketches are shown.
