- Summary
- Anne Cattaneo discusses her career with Newsday critic Linda Winer. Dramaturg for Lincoln Center Theater since 1988, Cattaneo demystifies the tasks of a dramaturg, who works behind the scenes on the literary aspects of producing a play. Cattaneo talks in detail about her role in the realization of Tom Stoppard's trilogy The coast of Utopia, her friendship with playwright Wendy Wasserstein, her responsibility for finding and advocating for young and emerging writers, the decline since the 1970s in new plays being produced, her leadership of The LCT Director's Lab, a summer workshop that assists emerging stage directors in developing their craft, her advocacy of professionals in her field, and her desire for more opportunities to be created in the theater for writers to have their works produced.
