Summary
Theatrical attorney Floria Lasky discusses her career with Newsday critic Linda Winer. Lasky speaks about the difficulties she had as a female Jewish law school graduate of 1945 in securing a job in a law firm. She talks about her longstanding clients, Elia Kazan and Jerome Robbins, as well as her work representing such clients as Tennesse Williams, Gypsy Rose Lee and Carson McCullers. Lasky expounds on her role as president of the Jerome Robbins Foundation and Jerome Robbins Rights Trust, which via the artistic guidance of an advisory committee, grants the rights to restage Robbins' ballets and theatrical works; the increasing complexity of contracts for creative personnel; and her continuing support of both Robbins' and Kazan's actions during the House Un-American Activities Committee hearings in the early 1950s.
