- Description
- 1 videodisc (NTSC) (83 min.) : sd., col.; 4 3/4 in.
- Summary
- This program includes performances by the gogmagogs, a seven-member string ensemble, along with commentary by the musicians and group director and co-founder Lucy Bailey. Bailey expounds on her goal of releasing the physical expression of classical musicians, of helping them connect more directly with each other and with audiences through freedom of movement and vocalization. Exercises the players engaged in to reach this are demonstrated, and excerpts from various works, including the group's latest piece, gobbledygook, are performed to show the techniques in action. The participants also discuss the challenges of moving around the stage with their instruments, and the original contributions of composer-writer teams, including Roddy Skeaping and Rupert Sheldrake, Orlando Gough and Caryl Churchill, and Django Bates and Patrick Barlow.
