- Theatrical producer Elizabeth McCann and drama critic John Simon discuss the state of the theatre with co-hosts Susan Haskins and Michael Riedel. Some of the issues explored are whether new talent is emerging in the Broadway musical theater; the decline in the production of non-musical plays on Broadway; the role of education in creating informed theatergoers; the need for a national theater in the United States; the use of popular film and television performers on the Broadway stage; the importance of training for stage actors; the value of "high concept" productions of the theatrical classics; and the influence of drama critics on the theater business.
