Summary
Alec McCowen discusses his 40-year career in the theater with co-hosts Susan Haskins and Michael Riedel. Best known for his classical roles including Shakespeare, the actor has worked in London and New York in such plays as Waiting for Godot, The misanthrope and Dancing at Lughnasa. McCowen expounds on his current role in the play Someone who'll watch over me by Frank McGuinness, and his work with actor Stephen Rea. McCowen speaks also about his interpretation of the Fool opposite Paul Scofield's King Lear in 1962; his admiration for comedian Jack Benny; the creation of his one-man performance of the complete text of Saint Mark's Gospel in 1978; his family life and upbringing in Tunbridge Wells, England; his studies at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts; his arrival in the United States where he gained insight working with such performers as Ruth Gordon; and the Shakespearean roles he would like to perform.
