Summary
Playwright Lynn Nottage talks with Newsday critic Linda Winer. Nottage discusses her plays such as Intimate apparel, Fabulation, Poof, Por'Knockers, Las meninas, and Mud, river, stone. These widely contrasting works each deal to some extent with African Americans and/or women. She elaborates on the sources of her imagination, which include her family and her upbringing in a multicultural Brooklyn, New York, neighborhood; her education at Brown University; her pivotal work experience as the national press officer for Amnesty International; and the changes she would like to make in the theater to benefit women.
