- Design depicts Oberon from 1966 staging of Ashton's ballet Dream, based on William Shakespeare's play A Midsummer night's dream. The male dancer is depicted full-length, bare-chested, with dark hair and a dark beard. He wears a long black cloak with a feathered collar.

- Frederick Ashton's ballet Dream (with music by Felix Mendelssohn) premiered in 1964 with scenery by Henry Bardon and costumes by David Walker. The ballet was restaged in 1966 for the Royal Ballet touring section with scenery and costumes by Peter Farmer. This later production was used by the main Royal Ballet company from Dec. 2, 1971 to Feb. 8, 1974, after which the Bardon/Walker production was restored to the repertory. See: www.ashtonarchive.com
