Note
  • Engraved throughout; illustrated engraved title page.
  • Errors on title page: 4th word of title appears as PLAISRIS instead of PLAISIRS; in imprint, 3rd word preceding the date appears as RPIVILEGE instead of PRIVILEGE.
  • A restrike of the 1657 edition, without the original letterpress text (dedication and privilege, 3 pages). See Justin Schiller. Realms of childhood (cited below): "Later printed on larger paper from the same copperplates (during the 1740s) but without the letterpress text."
  • Spencer Coll. copy: Most prints are on paper with vertical chain lines, some watermarked "P. Chalard Fin" with a baton royale between the initial and the surname. P. Chalard was a papermaker active in Lyon in the mid-18th century. Other partially visible watermarks show a crown and three balls. A few prints are on heavier paper with horizontal chain lines; no discernible watermark. Sheets of Spencer Coll. copy are trimmed to 18 x 20 cm.
  • First print following title page (arms of the Thou family) is unnumbered; remaining prints are numbered in plate 2-50. Plate marks: approximately 12 x 14.5 cm.
