  • First Latin edition with woodcuts printed in Germany.
  • Illustrations: 163 small woodcuts including numerous repeats; one pictorial initial D, other initials of Maiblumen design, and outline; the initial U of the prologue, f. 1a is the regulation woodcut initial. "The cuts themselves are the first German illustrations to Veragine, having originally appeared in Zainer's German edition of 1471-2 (25 Oct. - 27 Apr.)...the first book illustrations produced at Augsburg." cf. Fairfax Murray 431. In a note written for the catalogue of his library, William Morris said: "The cuts in this book are done by an early artist of Zainer's and have the look of being designed by an illuminator; they look like the work in Song's 'Speculum.'" cf. Morgan 134.
  • Binding, modern, of dark brown morocco stamped in the style of the fifteenth century German bindings. Sides within an inset rose vine border and fillets, with center panel in a diaper design of Tudor roses and diamond-shaped lozenges. Back lettered and stamped. With gilt edges.
