Summary
The bulk of the collection, 1986-1992, concerns the formation and development of "Emerge" news magazine. Included here is correspondence which reveals Ames's initial concept for the magazine, along with board minutes, memoranda, detailed plans, proposals, financial records, advertising and marketing plans, and manuscripts and clippings for articles published in the magazine. Additionally, there are manuscripts, published articles, and research materials for "Time," "Sports Illustrated," and "People" magazines; typescripts for pilots written by Ames, for two television series; personal correspondence as well as professional correspondence with editors and friends; reviews; speeches; and a manuscript for a book he co-wrote, "Toughen Up: The Chuck Norris Fitness System" (1983.) There are also files for Ames's "APOLLO Magazine" (1991-1992), a magazine project that never launched.
