- Summary
- The first in a series of four programs devoted to the life and career of Katharine Hepburn. Actors Sam Waterston and Zoe Caldwell read from Hepburn's correspondence, including several letters from actress Constance Collier, speeches written and delivered by Hepburn on various occasions, and reviews of her performances in stage plays and films. Significant portions of the correspondence were written during the making of the film The African Queen in 1951, and during the period in the late 1960s when the Broadway musical Coco, in which Hepburn starred, was being developed. Waterston also reminisces about his relationship with Hepburn while they worked on a made-for-TV movie version of Tennessee Williams' play The glass menagerie in the early 1970s.
