- Summary
- Dave Garroway, [the first host of "Today" on NBC-TV and] a page at the time when NBC was merely a radio station, recollects the time when personalities of such magnitude as Toscanini had magic and grandeur; an image that in part was built up by the studio which tried to protect these persons from casual encounters. One of the responsibilities that Garroway had was to assure that the great Maestro would not be distracted by anyone but his immediate colleagues, friends, or family while entering the studio. He also recounts how none of the employees (much less outsiders) could even listen to the rehearsals, but only watch them through the glass.
