- Edward Bachmann, a violinist, remembers Toscanini as the "king of music", but not a tyrant, rather a conductor for whom all orchestras always played better due to his magic ability to electrify and rejuvenate music. Bachmann provides such details as why Toscanini preferred chamber musicians to symphonic performers, how he expressed satisfaction or discontent, and much more.
