- Summary
- Walter Legge, the founder of the Philarmonia Orchestra of London, recalls his efforts to get Toscanini conduct his orchestra. He finally succeeded through the conductor's daughter Wally. Years later in Milan at a luncheon they talked about those years, and Toscanini said that rehearsing the Brahms symphony no. 2 with the orchestra was one of the most remarkable experiences in his career: He felt he was playing with his equals, and indeed, he stopped the rehearsal only once.
