- Summary
- Herbert Grossman, an American conductor, first met Toscanini at the young age of 22 when he played at an audition of an Italian singer. Two years later Maestro invited him for a solo quartet, and they spent time at the maestro's Riverdale home discussing the program. Grossman spent some summers with Toscanini at his villa in Italy, benefiting from such close contacts. He calls Maestro a many-sided man and a great person stating his belief that such people are not born, but placed here by a divine power to guide us in a certain area where they dominate.
