- Summary
- David Hall, whose productive career included many achievements in the music industry, was a script writer for the N.B.C. broadcasts from 1942 to 1948. He was alaso a witness to many rehearsals conducted by Toscanini, and summing up his overall impression of them, points out the maestro's unrelenting attention to detail from the beginning to the end. In his memory, the conductor's occasional outbursts were justified since they were caused only by the musicians' distraction or some sort of stupid mistakes: the patience he had for accomplishing the best results by far surpassed those incidents. Above all, Hall singles out Toscanini's magnetism and charisma to which he attributes the conductor's total control of the orchestra and his power to obtain perfection.
