- Edward Marshall, a conductor and former CBS producer, was often present at broadcast concerts and rehearsals of various conductors, but listening to Toscanini in his words was like being in a cathedral. He calls these experiences almost semi-religious and extremely inspirational. Marshall provides details of maestro's attitude towards different instruments and rehearsals. He said that maestro approached each performance "freshly", as something absolutely new, and that made music that he had performed many times memorable.
