- Oct. 12, 2006 (ca. 45 min.) Sachiyo Ito reflects on the origins of her interest in dance; her early training at the Hanayagi school; becoming a teacher to foreigners in Japan; joining an all female Kabuki troupe [Joyuza Kabuki Troupe]; her first experience teaching in the U.S., at the American Dance Festival; Ito's first exposure to Western dance and her desire to learn more in order to enhance her teaching of Japanese dance; the culture shock she experienced as she began to study; studying at New York University and the Cunningham studio; returning to Japan to study with Fujima Shotoyo; her interest in Okinawan dance as the focus of her Masters thesis; re-staging traditional works; creating new choreography.
