- Summary
- Disc 1 (ca. 31 min.). Charles Weidman speaks with Don McDonagh about early Denishawn dances, and dancing with the Denishawn company; studying under Doris Humphrey at Denishawn; ballet training; dancing for Denishawn in 1920; early tours with Denishawn; Martha Graham's mother, and Graham's sisters; Graham's mother's home in Santa Barbara, Calif.; dancing in L.A. to earn extra money; sharing an apartment, and a platonic bed, with Graham and her sister Geordie; Graham's dance technique and style; working as a weaver in N.Y. to earn money; posing in Indian costumes for art students to supplement his income; films that were made of his dances with scores provided by Louis Horst; Graham and Horst's personal and professional relationship; Graham's need to have someone with whom to confide; the fact that Graham and Humphrey did not tour for Denishawn at the same time.
