- Summary
- Focuses on the visual arts programs of the New Deal which allowed unemployed artists to earn a living and devote themselves to their art. Alice Neel, Chaim Gross, Jacob Lawrence, Lee Krasner and others discuss their experiences working for the WPA and other New Deal programs. The film explores the activities of the Artists Union and the destruction of artworks under the New Deal. Rare archival footage, photographs, and audio recordings along with original color photography of the works of art accompany on-camera statements by the artists.
