- Summary
- This "witty and irreverent" animated film, based on Wade Hemsworth's 1949 folksong, is a cautionary tale concerning man versus nature. One early spring, the protagonist was sent by the unemployment office to the forests of northern Ontario to re-direct water flow for a hydroelectric dam. The forces of "progress" prove futile against an attack of the insatiable and multi-talented swarms of blackflies, causing our beleaguered surveyor-hero to lament: "Twas blackfly, blackfly everywhere, a-crawlin' in your whiskers, a-crawlin' in your hair, a-swimmin' in the soup, a-swimmin' in the tea, the devil take the blackfly, and let me be!" The soundtrack is performed by Wade Hemsworth with arrangements and back-up vocals by Kate and Anna McGarrigle.
