Summary
In Baltimore, people of all races join in an "I'm an American" parade. At Altus Army Base, a Black sergeant fashions a more efficient prosthetic device for a jet aircraft mechanic. Cameras film top Black Eisenhower appointees including, Julia Cooper (first woman member of the Criminal Division of the Justice Department); Philip Sadler (public housing and race relations advisor); Alexander Lanaville (Special Assistant in the Veterans Administration); and Samuel Pierce (lawyer in the Anti-Trust Division of the Justice Department and Assistant to the Undersecretary of Labor). Also in Washington D.C., Alexander interviews Mr. Hayes, Chairman of the Commission of Public Utilities. Backstage at the Havana Club in New York's Greenwich Village, a talented line of chorus girls prepares to go onstage. (This film is part of the Tyler, Texas Black Film Collection, a group of motion pictures made between 1935 and 1956 featuring mostly or all-Black casts, produced and/or directed by African American filmmakers and shown primarily to Black audiences. All films are preceded by a 4 minute explanatory introduction by Ossie Davis.)
