Summary
A Parisian bookseller rescues a tramp about to commit suicide over the loss of his dog. Emerging from the Seine, Boudu insists that his savior is now responsible for him. Ensconcing himself in Lestingois' house, the anarchic Boudu flouts middle-class proprieties and sets about seducing both mistress and maid. In the end, the vagrant abandons his bourgeois haven for the freedom of the open road. The film's technical skill, on-location shooting, and interplay of the natural and theatrical, proved a major influence on the directors of the French New Wave. (Does not circulate)
