Summary
Program 301: Superstition is the category for this program's feature novel, Ghost host by Marilyn Singer. 16-year-old football star Bart Hawkins seeks a way of ridding his house of a nasty poltergeist without alienating the nine friendly ghosts which also haunt it. "Author interview," plays host to the book's writer, Marilyn Singer. Will you be my POSSLQ? by Eve Bunting is the selected junior novel. Jamie, a recovered cancer patient and UCLA coed, shares her apartment with a male student but their platonic relationship is complicated by family problems. High school students respond to the question: "Which books do you like?" Mothers of invention: women inventors from the bra to the bomb by Ethlie Ann Vare and Greg Ptacek is reviewed in the "True stories" segment. Solomon, the rusty nail by William Steig is recommended as a "Book to read to your little brothers and sisters." Nancy Springer's The Hex witch of seldom concerning an enchanted horse for 16-year-old Bobbi, is the topic for discussion in "Book bind." In General Library, Yolanda tries to instruct Paula on the use of the circulation terminal but Paula feels like a failure. Tony (alias Trent) flirts with Gina. Program 302: A fitting title for the "Romance" category is Caroline B. Cooney's book, The Girl who invented romance. Awaiting her first big romance and observing the sometimes rocky love affairs of her parents and brother, 16-year-old Kelly invents a board game called Romance. Caroline B. Cooney is the guest on "Author interview." A Girl from Thornhill by Beverly Cleary is the selection for "True Stories." In "Ideas from high school," students ponder the query, "Where is your favorite place to read?" Hatchet by Gary Paulsen is the subject of "Book bind." Following a plane crash, 13-year-old Brian survives in the wilderness with the aid of an ax given to him by his mother. Welcome to Moonbase by Ben Bova is recommended in the "Science fiction" segment. Arthur Yorkins' Company's coming is an enchanting "Book to read to your little brothers and sisters." In this episode of General Library, Paula tries to xerox herself to death but is rescued by fellow clerk, Yolanda. She reveals her unrequited love for Tim, and Yolanda, suggesting a makeover to boost her confidence, directs her to the library's fashion magazines. Trent (really Tony Gonzalez) tries to impress Gina with his wealth.
