Summary
Documents the folk games and songs of African-American, Scots-Irish, Norwegian, Anglo-American, Greek, Italian and Yiddish-Russian cultures. This film illustrates how folkloric tradition is transmitted by parents, grandparents and other relatives to children who, in turn, communicate this folk material to other youngsters. Divided into five sections: 1)"Kisha's Song" records a lullaby sung to an infant by an elderly Black woman; 2)"Roon About" shows an elderly Scots-Irish man demonstrating finger plays to a young boy; 3)"Rooster, Hen, Pullet" shows face games between a Black woman and several children of different ages; 4)"Ride the Horse" shows knee riding between a middle-aged man and a young boy; 5)"Pittsburgh Song" shows an assortment of different rhymes and childhood games remembered by different ethnic groups.
