- Summary
- Portrays the life of a group of Hispanic American artists living in a large urban center in New York's Lower East Side and how it influences their sense of community and self. Marpesa, a South American immigrant, helps run the eponymous cafe that serves as a meeting place for other Latino immigrants and is pressured for a commitment by her boyfriend, an alcoholic artist and owner of the cafe. Her situation intensifies when an old friend, a South American Indian, arrives and also vies for her affections.
