- Description
- 2 film reels (46 min.) : sd., col.; 16 mm.
- Summary
- This film investigates the biological facts, ecological impact and cultural influence of Bufus Marinus, the cane toad imported into Australia in 1935 to combat the cane slug and beetle, dreaded pests of the Australian farmer. Failing to eradicate either the slug or the beetle, the cane toad population multiplied to become a plague of vast proportions. Wildlife specialists, government officials, and residents of infested areas describe the effects of the cane toad on the ecosystem, relate cane toad folklore, and reveal their personal experiences with the omnipresent amphibian. Cane toad experts discuss the toad's eating habits and its dangerous poison.
