Description
1 videocassette (22 min.) : sd., col.; 1/2 in.
Summary
Cousteau and the Calypso crew explore the geology of the Galapagos Islands, revealing startling formations of molten lava cooled by sea water. Attention is focused on the marine iguana as it warms in the sun, battles for territory, and forages for food underwater. Dr. George Bartholomew, an expert on marine iguanas, speculates on their origin stating that these iguanas are basically land animals that have been driven by necessity to the sea by man. With an iguana hooked up to an electrocardiograph, Dr. Bartholomew explains how the iguana can cut its blood circulation and heartbeat to a minimum without damage to the brain.
