Summary
This opulent historical epic takes place during the death throes of the Roman Empire in the 2nd century B.C. The reign of power is passed from the philosopher king, Marcus Aurelius to his son, the capricious libertine Commodus. Amidst the chaos of barbarian invasion and provincial rebellion springs the love of Lucilla, daughter of Marcus Aurelius and the Roman general Livius.
