Summary
The star of this animated adaptation is Max, a musically gifted hippopotamus who can play virtually any instrument including trombone, bass, xylophone, flute, harmonica, cymbals, synthesizer and accordion. Playing by note and by ear, Max practices all the time much to the chagrin of his father and the neighbors who are driven to distraction. The virtuoso's sole ally is his doting mother. Over time, however, Max decides to stop playing his array of instruments. Much to their surprise, Max's father and the townspeople discover that they miss the young hippo's performances. All ends happily when Max finally resumes his musical avocation and forms a community orchestra with himself as conductor.
