Description

Summary
95% of all the earth's species have been cephalopods, the class of invertebrate marine animals to which the octopus, the nautilus, the cuttlefish and squid belong. Cousteau traces the life cycle of the squid from its wandering in the deep to mating and spawning. The result is a dramatic record of the squid's unrelenting struggle for survival. Squids gather in large masses during their annual mating frenzy. The male squid transfers packets of sperm from his body to that of the female by using a specially adapted tentacle. The female attaches the fertilized egg clusters to the sea bottom where they hatch in approximately 28 days.
