- Summary
- Authentic South African music accompanies this iconographic adaptation of Niki Daly's story about Malusi, nicknamed Songololo by his grandmother, Gogo, and their special day in the city. Helping Gogo onto the bus and then through the bustling urban streets, Malusi stops suddenly, mesmerized by a pair of bright red "tackies" (sneakers) in a shoe store window. After Gogo purchases groceries and a new plastic tablecloth, she surprises Malusi by buying him the sneakers he so admired. Malusi walks proudly and quickly down the sidewalk, while Gogo, struggling to keep up, cries goodnaturedly, "Not so fast, Songololo."
