- A retelling of the first part of Hsi yü chi by Wu Chʻêng-ên, an allegorical, satirical novel written during the Ming Dynasty in the sixteenth century and published in English as Journey to the West, and Monkey. The book describes the seventh century pilgrimage of a monk from China to India, accompanied on his journey by a monkey. In this first part of the story, the mischievous monkey acquires god-like powers and creates havoc in heaven.
