- Summary
- This program presents selected scenes from the first act of Marqués' three-act play charting the migration of a rural Puerto Rican family to Spanish Harlem in New York City. It is a dramatic examination of the controversial issue of modern technology versus a return to the land. René Marqués appears in the brief prologue to introduce his story. A documentary epilogue examines the impoverished living conditions of the Hispanic community in New York City and the discrimination experienced in housing, employment and education.
