Summary
The heroine of this Christmas tale is Jessica, an eight-year-old whose mother has recently died. Her gruff but loving father fears that he will lose his apple farm and sends Jessica to stay with her aunt in hopes that she will have a better life. When a wounded reindeer appears in the woods, the little girl, convinced that he is Prancer, is determined to reunite him with Santa Claus. Nursing the animal back to health, Jessica triumphs over the town's cynical inhabitants including a department store Santa, a surly veterinarian, and a Dickensian misanthrope who lives in a crumbling mansion.
