- Summary
- Buoyed by the success of Zou Zou a year earlier, Josephine Baker's manager produced this Pygmalion-like fantasy/comedy of a shepherd girl's rise to pretend princess. The story concerns a French nobleman, Max de Mirecourt who, after a dispute with his wife, leaves Paris for Tunisia hoping to find inspiration for a novel he is trying to complete. Josephine Baker stars as the Bedouin Alwina who serves as his much needed muse. Together with his collaborator, M. Coton, Mirecourt concocts a scheme to polish Alwina's charm and bring her to Paris in the guise of an Indian princess. The two major songs sung by Baker are "Le Chemin de Bonheur" and Sans Le Ciel d'Afrique." (Circulates)
