Description
3 film reels (92 min.) : sd., col.; 16 mm.
Summary
The film weaves episodes from a woman's life with narration and music, joining a naturalistic story with an avant-garde form. The story of Oedipus and the Sphinx is juxtaposed with the contemporary fable and used as a metaphor for the rise of the patriarchy and displacement of the matriarchy. The film centers on the situation of Louise, a middle-class mother obsessively involved with her four-year-old daughter. The soundtrack is devoted to her rhyming, circular stream of consciousness. Louise's oblique progress with motherhood is depicted in a series of 360-degree panning shots. The effect is to rotate the boundaries of her world in a kind of slow delirium. (Circulates)
