- Summary
- This program examines the problems created by immigrants both legal and illegal, which, according to U.S. Immigration officials, are creating a national crisis. As a result of resisting assimilation, the immigrants are creating a country within a country. In the eyes of many Americans, their refusal to learn English as the language of U.S. citizenship is a threat to America's sense of nationhood. Accepting low wages, illegal immigrants are accused of depriving Americans of jobs. For the immigrants, however, the issue is survival.
