Summary
This documentary charts the processes of acculturation that have occurred in the lives of a Navajo family over four generations. An ethnographic portrait of the Navajo in 1938 is presented through the photographs and films of anthropologist John Adair. Illustrated are sheep herding, horticulture, weaving, silversmithing and other facets of life on the reservation. Interviews with family members and footage shot in 1986 demonstrate how the family has changed and how traditional values and behavior are being challenged by the forces of modernization.
