Summary

Winter is late in coming so for Reuven the furrier it is a bad year. After some hesitation, he decides to sell Zlateh the goat to buy candles and other necessities for the holiday season. Imagery and music evoke the bleak textures and sounds of village life in this folktale set in pre-war Poland. The parable unfolds to reveal the ecological balance linking man to all living things.
