- Summary
- Maxwell Street's open-air market is a Chicago landmark first established by Jewish merchants in the early part of the twentieth century. Today, the area bustles with shoppers and the sounds of the city's most renowned blues and gospel singers. This documentary sketches the historical background of the market and highlights the street performances of blues and gospel veterans. Two of Maxwell Street's most resilient players are Blind Arvella Gray and Blind Jim Brewer who reminisce about their pasts and the decades spent making a precarious living on this busy musical thoroughfare. Their recollections are punctuated by Arvella Gray's home movies.
