- Description
- 1 videocassette (29 min.) : sd., col.; 1/2 in.
- Summary
- Plastic, in its many forms, threatens the marine environment, killing wildlife that become entrapped in it or mistake it for food. This tape describes the mounting problems associated with plastic waste including: whales beaching themselves; Aleutian Island seal pups entangled in plastic fishing gear; fishermen competing with their own "ghost nets;" and beach closings due to plastic debris. It explains the tenets of MARPOL, the new international treaty that makes it illegal to dump any form of plastic in the oceans. Also documented are the anti-pollution activities of community and environmental organizations, governmental agencies and the plastics industry itself.
