- Summary
- Moritz is a five-year-old boy who lives in an East German collective children's home. Everyone likes him because he is friendly and helpful, but he will not keep himself clean and tidy. One day, a king from Fairy Tale Land comes to the children's home. His daughter, Princess Rose Petal, has been put into a deep sleep by a witch, and she can only be awakened by a child who performs three difficult tasks. Everyone is afraid that the princess will be frightened by Moritz's sloppy appearance, but the king agrees to let Moritz be one of three children who will try to rescue her. Moritz's aversion to washing does prove to make the rescue mission more difficult. When he changes his attitude, he and his friends are able to save the princess. She begs her father to let her live at the children's home, which is much better than the boring castle.
